Can I be on a [class of drug/drug name] when pregnant?
Most medications used in IBD treatment and management are safe when pregnant or trying to conceive though there are some exceptions. Methotrexate needs to be stopped at least 3 months before becoming pregnant due to the risk of congenital malformations. Corticosteroids such as prednisone can increase the risk of gestational diabetes during pregnancy and should not be used unless necessary during this time.
Tofacitinib has limited human data on safety during pregnancy, so it\’s recommended to avoid or use with caution.
