How is Ulcerative Colitis (UC) treated?

Ulcerative colitis is commonly treated with medicines and surgery. Each person experiences ulcerative colitis differently, and doctors recommend treatments based on how severe the disease is and how much of the large intestine is affected. The goals of treatment are to decrease the inflammation in your intestines, to prevent flare-ups of your symptoms, and to help maintain remission. At present, there is no known cure for ulcerative colitis.
