What causes bleeding / rectal bleeding in Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)?

If you are seeing blood in your stool, this can be related to the ulcers caused by your IBD. If the blood appears dark, this might be from blood higher in the GI tract. Bright red blood is more likely to be from ulceration in the large instestine. Bleeding can also be caused by IBD complications such as anal fissures or hemorrhoids. Be sure to discuss with your Care Team if you see are experiencing bleeding.
