What causes Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD)?

We currently don\’t know the exact cause of Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), but we do know that it develops from a dysfunctional immune response. The immune system doesn\’t respond correctly to the environment, which causes chronic inflammation of the gastrointestinal tract. Genetics may play a role, since someone with a family history of IBD is more likely to develop the condition.
