What is a sigmoidoscopy and what it is measuring?

A sigmoidoscopy is ordered to either diagnose suspected IBD or monitor your IBD. This procedure can potentially show irritated or ulcerated tissue, ulcers, polyps, or cancer. For this procedure, a doctor uses a scope to look inside your rectum and lower part of the colon.
