What is an anal fissure? How do I manage/treat them?

An anal fissure is a tear in the tissue of the anus that causes pain and/or bleeding during a bowel movement. Discomfort can be managed with topical medications and sitz baths. Depending on the cause, treatment can include topical medications, diet changes, or surgery.
