What is an upper endoscopy and what it is measuring?

For an upper endoscopy, a doctor uses a scope to look inside your throat, stomach, and the upper part of the small intestine. The procedure can show irritated or ulcerated tissue, ulcers, or cancer. An upper endoscopy is ordered to either diagnose suspected IBD or other upper GI conditions, or monitor your IBD.
