What is short bowel syndrome?

Short bowel syndrome is a condition that occurs due to poor nutrient absorption in the small intestines. This condition may arise if a large amount of the small intestine is removed or if there is extensive damage to the small intestine. Preventing malnutrition and dehydration is key goal when experiencing short bowel syndrome.
